3rd Innovation Forum on Healthy Food and Forest in Lubelskie, Poland

On 13 April 2019, the Marshal's Office of the Lubelskie Voivodeship organised the 3rd Innovation Forum entitled “Lubelskie Region – healthy land of food and forests” in Lublin, Poland. Implemented under the EmpInno project, entrepreneurs, researchers and guests from companies, institutions and scientific-research units were invited to exchange and discuss market experiences and innovative approaches of the Polish food  and forest industry and market. The forum was divided in two parts: The first part was dedicated to high-quality food products such as functional food with pro-health properties based on natural ingredients and the access to and market opportunities on the national and global market. The participants were inspired by the EIT Food good practices, ways of certificate receipt on national and international level and effective and open innovation ecosystems at the regional and interregional level. They learned why clusters are an important element of accelerating the development of micro and small family enterprises. After the presentations, the discussion panel focused attention on several aspects such as: the  of producers and consumers in the field of food safety, strengthening the brand of Lublin berry species, closer linkages of research and fruit practices, improving competitiveness on the processing market, pro-health activities based on personalised food, healthy products with the so-called "clean label", or industry integration and ways to increase the Polish organic food market.

The second part of the forum was dedicated mostly to the forest industry and market. Representatives from the Institute of Soil Science and Plant Cultivation in Puławy and guest speaker Dr. Kesheng Shu talked about the European Union's approach to biotechnology, flagship projects including those implemented under the Horizon 2020 programme. Successive speakers talked about bottom-up initiatives on energy independence, agroforestry and the European waste wood platform. During the entire Innovation Forum, the guests had the opportunity to try regional products and familiarise with the international projects implemented by the Marshal's Office of the Lubelskie Voivodeship.
